Resolution and Balance

Resolution prioritizes restoration of balance.

In Tsm’syen law, resolution is measured by the restoration of balance, not by victory or punishment. A matter is resolved when relationships, responsibilities, and lawful order are restored.

Restoration of balance considers:

  • the nature and extent of harm,
  • the relationships affected,
  • responsibilities of individuals, houses, clans, and the Nation,
  • the condition of the land and resources involved.

Resolution may require:

  • acknowledgment of harm,
  • repair, remediation, or compensation,
  • changes in conduct,
  • witnessed processes guided by ayaawx.

Outcomes that ignore balance leave matters unresolved. Lasting resolution strengthens relationships and reinforces law.

Balance is the measure of resolution.
