Authority and Responsibility

No authority exists without responsibility.

Authority in Tsm’syen law is inseparable from responsibility. No person, house, clan, or body may claim authority without accepting responsibility for conduct, care, and consequences.

Responsibility includes:

  • care for land, people, and relationships,
  • accountability for actions and decisions,
  • obligation to repair harm and restore balance,
  • adherence to ayaawx and witnessed practice.

Authority is not symbolic or abstract. It is proven through conduct over time and recognition by others.

Where responsibility is avoided, denied, or misused:

  • authority weakens,
  • trust is lost,
  • and lawful standing may be withdrawn.

Responsibility precedes authority and sustains it. Without responsibility, authority has no lawful foundation.
