Responsibility and Authority over Land
Loss of responsibility weakens authority over land.
Authority over laxyuup depends on the ongoing exercise of responsibility. When responsibility is neglected, avoided, or misused, authority diminishes.
Loss of responsibility may include:
- failure to care for land and resources,
- disregard for ayaawx,
- refusal to address harm or restore balance,
- abandonment of lawful duties over time.
As responsibility declines:
- trust erodes,
- recognition weakens,
- standing within the Nation is reduced,
- authority may be challenged or withdrawn.
Authority is not permanent. It exists only where responsibility is actively upheld.
Restoration of responsibility is required to restore authority.
