House Authority within Laxyuup

Houses exercise authority within their lawful areas.

Authority within laxyuup is exercised by houses according to ayaawx. Each house holds responsibility for specific areas, defined through history, conduct, and lawful recognition.

House authority includes:

  • stewardship and care of land and resources,
  • regulation of use according to ayaawx,
  • responsibility for the conduct of house members,
  • participation in decision-making affecting their lawful areas.

Authority is not absolute. It is limited by:

  • ayaawx,
  • the rights and responsibilities of other houses,
  • witnessed precedent and adaawx,
  • and the requirement to maintain balance.

Houses do not act independently of the Nation. Their authority exists within a wider network of relationships among houses, clans, and the people as a whole.

Failure to uphold ayaawx weakens a house’s authority within its lawful area.
