Trust Defines the Scope of Elder Involvement

Category: Tsm’syen Law Page status: Working

Purpose

To recognize that the influence of Elders depends on recognition, confidence, and the relationships that sustain authority.

General Principle

Trust defines the scope of elder involvement.

Meaning

Elders are heard because they are trusted. Their participation rests on respect built through conduct and memory.

Function

This principle protects the integrity of guidance. It ensures involvement remains rooted in legitimacy rather than position alone.

Scope

Trust may be reflected through:

  • willingness to listen,
  • acceptance of reminders,
  • requests for clarification,
  • and recognition of experience.

Limits

Without trust, influence diminishes. Guidance cannot be forced.

Consequence

Maintained trust strengthens unity and continuity. Loss of trust narrows the role an Elder may effectively play.
