Protection of Laxyuup for Future Generations

Laxyuup must be protected for future generations.

Protection of laxyuup is a continuing responsibility under Tsm’syen law. Present authority is exercised in trust for those yet to come.

Protection requires:

  • stewardship that maintains the health of land, waters, and resources,
  • restraint in use and extraction,
  • prevention of irreversible harm,
  • transmission of responsibilities through teaching and example.

Decisions affecting laxyuup must consider:

  • long-term impacts,
  • cumulative effects,
  • continuity of rights and responsibilities,
  • the ability of future generations to live lawfully on the land.

Short-term benefit does not justify lasting damage. Failure to protect laxyuup weakens law, authority, and continuity.

Care for the future is part of present responsibility.
